Support for Healthy Multicultural Relationships

This program offers Wellness Workshops, Psychoeducation Groups and Anger Management Care sessions to immigrant, refugee, and visible minority couples at risk of experiencing or perpetrating domestic violence.

Eligibility

This program is for couples who:

  • Are immigrants, refugees, or visible minorities

  • Are at risk of domestic violence

  • Have Permanent Residency status (for at least one partner)

Program Description

Enhancing Healthier Relationships program helps multicultural couples: 

  • Learn constructive ways to deal with conflict
  • Identify personal triggers
  • Develop stress and anger management skills and strategies 
  • Move past aggression to identify and express a fuller range of emotions
  • Learn factors that contribute to domestic violence

Clients may enroll in one, two or all three components of the program. Before joining any program component, participants will complete an intake and assessment process to ensure the program meets their needs. 

Program Components  

Wellness Sessions

Group sessions open to all newcomer and immigrant individuals to navigate stressors arising from migration, healthy communication etc. A cohort of 10 participants meet the facilitator once a month, for a total of 6 sessions (60-90 minutes per session). 

Psychoeducation Groups

Group sessions for couples to address challenges around communication, conflict resolution emotional regulation and developing healthier relationships. Each group includes 5 couples who meet with a facilitator once in two weeks, for a total of 6 sessions (60-90 minutes per session).  

Anger Management Care Sessions

Group sessions for men to learn more and gain an understanding about effective ways for managing stress and emotions, respectful communication for resolving conflicts, and techniques for healing and self care. A cohort of 10 participants meet the facilitator once in 2 weeks, for a total of 6 sessions (60-90 minutes per session). 

FAQ

What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence includes emotional, physical, and sexual abuse between people in intimate relationships. The aggressive or violent behaviour leads to unhealthy relationships in couples.

My partner does not want to register for this program; what should I do?

Please speak with the Program Coordinator to discuss the options.

Will the wellness workshops be recorded?

There will be no recording available in any wellness workshops or psychoeducation groups. The Program Coordinator is dedicated to accommodating events based on your availability. We encourage you to contact them directly for assistance if you have any concerns or specific scheduling requests.
